Award Ceremony Celebrates Student Achievements, Donors’ Generosity
November 16, 2011
The University of Guelph Kemptville Campus will acknowledge outstanding student achievement at an awards luncheon to be held on Thursday, November 17, 2011 in Purvis Hall.
Some $28,000 in financial awards will be distributed to 22 recipients. A total of 39 scholarships and bursaries have been made possible by 16 donors, including alumni, industry and government funding partners.
Among the highlights of this year’s awards is the Ontario Agricultural College (OAC) Class of 49 Scholarship in support of the Bachelor of Bio Resource Management (BBRM). Students in Canada’s first and only degree program in equine management spend two years at the Kemptville campus and two at the University’s main campus in Guelph. Class of 49 was the first graduating class from OAC following World War II. Because of their diverse life experiences, these alumni have chosen to endow a scholarship to not only support students’ interest in a career in agriculture and industry, but also to acknowledge both leadership and life experience.
Kemptville Campus was established in 1917 to support and strengthen farming practices in Eastern Ontario. Since becoming part of the University of Guelph and OAC in 1997, the campus has become a venue for programs in agriculture, food and horticulture, as well as apprenticeships and trade certifications.
