OAC Learning Trust

Recognized as a world leader in innovative life sciences and research, the OAC produces graduates who discover and implement leading edge solutions for agriculture, food, the environment, and rural communities in Canada and around the world.

The Learning Trust (formerly the Teaching Trust) provides undergraduate students the opportunity to engage in hands on learning experiences such as teaching labs, field study programs, and international studies designed to enhance knowledge learned within the class room.

Funds given in support of the OAC Learning Trust are invested in an endowed account to be used in perpetuity. The OAC is committed to raising $10 Million by 2014 in support of this initiative.

OAC Food Leadership Trust

Our newest priority, the OAC Food Leadership Trust, provides strategic support for research, networking and knowledge exchange that will help OAC continue to be a world leader in food research.

Order of OAC

In 1999, to mark the 125th anniversary of the founding of the Ontario Agricultural College, the OAC Alumni Foundation established the unique Order of OAC.

The members of the Order of OAC are alumni and friends of the College who have donated $100,000 or more, as bequests, irrevocable insurance policies, planned gifts or cash donations, for endowment purposes within the Ontario Agricultural College or the OAC Alumni Foundation.

Membership is limited to 50 persons.

Deans' Scholarships

F.L. McEwen Scholarship
In recognition of his contribution as Dean of OAC, 1983-1990, the OAC Alumni Foundation provides the F.L. McEwen Scholarship in sustainable agriculture of $4,000 to the OAC graduate who is planning to enter a graduate program in a department or school of the OAC.

R.J. McLaughlin Awards
These awards were presented in 2003 for the first time to two participants in the Advanced Agricultural Leadership Program. Funds are provided to assist eligible participants with tuition and/or travel costs.

N.R. Richards Scholarship
A scholarship of $4,000 is offered by the OAC Alumni Foundation in recognition of Professor N.R. Richards' contribution to the OAC as Dean from 1962 to 1972. This scholarship is available to students who are graduating from OAC and who undertake graduate study at the University of Guelph in the area of Land Resource use and/or Rural Planning and Development.

C.M. & D.J. Switzer Scholarships
In recognition of Dr. Switzer's contribution as Dean of OAC, 1972-1983, the OAC Alumni Foundation provides two scholarships of $2,000 each to students in the degree and diploma programs of the College who have demonstrated outstanding leadership ability in OAC student organizations.

Other Awards Administered on Behalf of Donors

T.R. Hilliard Distinguished Agricultural Extension Award

The Foundation established this annual award to recognize persons who are making outstanding contributions to agricultural extension in Ontario. The award is named in memory of the late T. R. (Dick) Hilliard, former Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food. It consists of a citation and $1,000. Previous winners of this unique and coveted award include some of the best known names in Ontario agriculture. Recipients are selected from nominations submitted to the Foundation.

Lectureships

The OAC Alumni Foundation provides funding for the following lectures in the OAC Public Lecture series.

F.W. Presant Memorial Lecture
With funds received from family and friends of the late Fred Presant, the Foundation supports the Centre for the Study of Animal Welfare to present the F.W. Presant Memorial Lecture.

George Raithby Memorial Fund
Funds to support the George Raithby Memorial Lecture were raised by the Foundation from family and friends of the late Professor George Raithby. The Foundation manages these funds for the annual lecture series. The Lectureship operates under the guidance and leadership of a committee made up of members of the OAC Alumni Foundation and the Department of Animal and Poultry Science. Up to $4,000 is available annually to sponsor the lecture(s).
