Voluntary Withdrawal
Withdrawal before (and not including) the first class day
Students who wish to withdraw before the first class day may do so through Student Financial Services. If a student has completed course selection and payment of fees, Student Financial services will arrange for the appropriate refund. If a student withdraws before the first day of classes for fall semester, the registration fee will be forfeited (not refunded). For more information regarding refunds of fees please see Refunds.
Withdrawal between the first and 40th class day
A student choosing to withdraw after the first class day must follow the formal withdrawal process. The student must notify Undergraduate Program Services with a complete Notice of Withdrawal form. It is recommended that students meet with their Program Counsellor before following through with the withdrawal process to clarify the implications of withdrawal. If the student is receiving financial assistance such as OSAP, Student Financial Services should also be contacted. Students who withdraw before the 40th class day will not receive academic penalties and may be eligible for a refund of fees paid.
In cases where students withdraw for medical, compassionate or psychological reasons, some students may be eligible for a refund. Speak to your Program Counsellor if you would like to know more.
Withdrawal after the 40th class day
Students who choose to withdraw after the 40th class day for reasons other than medical, compassionate or psychological will be considered to have failed the courses in which they are registered. If the withdrawal is necessary for medical, compassionate or psychological reasons, students may appeal to their program's Academic Review Subcommittee. In some circumstances, students may be eligible for refund. It is highly recommended that students contemplating withdrawal after the 40th class day meet with their Program Counsellor to discuss options including possible appeal, and withdrawal processes and details.
Students who choose to withdraw are responsible for paying all Library loans or late fees immediately regardless of the original scheduled date.
For more information please refer to Section VIII of the Undergraduate calendar.
