- Environmental Biology
- Environmental Economics and Policy
- Environmental Geography
- Environmental Monitoring and Analysis (not available beyond 2009-10)
- Environmetrics and Modelling (not available beyond 2009-10)
- Natural Resources Management
More information about these majors and specific course requirements for each can be found in the BSc(Env) Undergraduate Program Calendar.
All first year students are admitted as "undeclared" for their first year of the program. You must declare a major in your first year. Once you have submitted the form to declare your major to Student Client Services in the Registrar’s office, check your Academic Evaluation to ensure it is correct.
Choosing your Major
In second semester, you will have the opportunity to attend a "Choose your Major" night where you will meet the Faculty Advisors for the different BSc(Env) majors. Use this time to find out more about each program directly from the advisors.
Information on the time and location of "Choose your Major" night will be posted under "News" on the Counselling home page. If you cannot attend the "Choose your Major" event, it is your responsibility to talk to the appropriate faculty advisors to collect information on the majors in which you are interested. The Undergraduate Calendar provides information on the required courses for each major.
Declaring or Changing Majors
You will need to obtain a Schedule of Studies Change Request Form in order to declare or change your major. The form is available from the Program Counsellor's office or Student Client Services on the third floor of the University Centre. When you have completed the form, it must be approved and signed by the Faculty Advisor for your major. After you have received the Faculty Advisor's approval, make an appointment with your Program Counsellor to discuss your choice and obtain her signature. The final step is to submit the signed form to the Registrar's Office located on the third floor of the University Centre.
It is recommended that you consult with your Faculty Advisor for a better understanding of program and course information as well as when choosing restricted electives.
The Undergraduate Calendar provides details regarding specific degree requirements. If you are interested in the curriculum offered through a more recent calendar year than the year in which you were admitted to the Program, please consult your Program Counsellor. All changes must be approved.
Students who would like to transfer into a major that is not in the BSc (Env) program must apply to transfer through the Admissions Office. Details can be found here. It is recommended you speak with the appropriate Program Counsellor for advice.
Students who would like to transfer into the BSc (Env) from another University of Guelph degree must apply to transfer. Details can be found here. Please contact the BSc (Env) Program Counsellor if you have questions.
Completing the Undergraduate Schedule of Studies Change Request form
Complete the Undergraduate Schedule of Studies Change Request form before meeting with your Faculty Advisor. The same content is required for both changing and choosing majors.
Begin by filling out your name and student ID number and use the following information as a guide to completing the form.
- Degree Program: BSc(Env)
- Program Type: Honours
- Specialization Type: Major
- Subject: In the first section, "Current Schedule of Studies", you must fill in the major in which you are currently enrolled. For undeclared students, write "undeclared" under "Subject". Students with a major must write their current major. The "Revised Schedule of Studies" section is where you declare your intended major under "Subject".
When to first Obtain Approval from the Program Counsellor
You will need approval from the Program Counsellor if you are using a calendar other than the one assigned to you in your first year at the University of Guelph. You then can proceed with other approvals as noted above.
