  • Crop management and physiology - adaptation of scientific principles to improve performance of field and horticultural crops in various environments
  • Crop breeding and genetics — including techniques to develop or improve germplasm using selection procedures, improvement of methodologies in plant breeding and to develop an understanding of genes at the whole plant level
  • Crop biotechnology - emphasizing the use of molecular biology techniques such as transformation, RFLP and RAPDs to develop novel germplasm and study gene function

Facilities include modern labs with up-to-date equipment and access to several field research sites with varying environmental conditions. Support for research is obtained from a variety of sources including federal, provincial, international, industrial and grower sponsors.
