Undergraduate Degrees

OAC's undergraduate degree programs produce new professionals ready to advance the fields of agriculture, food, the environment and community development. Students in all programs other than the Bachelor of Bio-Resource Management (BBRM) will complete their entire program of studies at the main campus in Guelph. BBRM students will study for two years at a regional campus (Ridgetown campus for Environmental Management; Kemptville campus for Equine Management), then complete their final two years in Guelph.

Bachelor of Arts

Comprehensive and wide ranging, Guelph's Bachelor of Arts (BA) program offers unusual flexibility. Students do not have to immediately declare a major, can select elective courses beyond their declared major, or perhaps do a second major or a minor.

28 different areas of specialization provide a wide range of options for academic pursuits and study opportunities.

Students are urged to seek the assistance of the counsellors in the BA Counselling Office regarding their program and academic regulations, selecting courses, services and resources available on campus, and when they are experiencing difficulties that affect their academic progress.

Admissions Requirements:
4 U English; 5 additional 4 U or 4 M courses. Mathematics or French (or other language) is strongly recommended.

Bachelor of Bio-Resource Management

The Bachelor of Bio-Resource Management (BBRM) is a new degree program designed for students looking for career-oriented training focused on renewable resources, with majors in Environmental Management or Equine Management.

The four-year, interdisciplinary program combines advanced studies in science, technology and business management with hands-on training in bio-resource management and stewardship.

Students enrolled in the program will spend their first two years studying at one of OAC's regional campuses, then transfer to the main Guelph campus for the final two years of the program.

Admissions Requirements:
4 U English; 4 U Biology; 4 additional 4 U or 4 M credits.

Bachelor of Commerce

The University of Guelph offers an honours program leading to a Bachelor of Commerce degree (BComm) with majors in a number of areas of study. OAC administers the Food and Agricultural Business (FAB) major through the Department of Food, Agricultural and Resource Economics. The FAB major prepares students for a range of management careers in the agriculture and food sector, Canada’s largest employment sector.

The agriculture and food business stream is designed for students interested in developing and enhancing their knowledge and understanding of food and agriculture business.

The agricultural science stream emphasizes the production aspects of farming and involves biology and either animal or plant systems.

Students are urged to consult the departmental advisor as this program requires students to select a stream of Restricted Elective courses that will complement their studies.

4 U English; Advanced Functions; 1 additional 4 U Math; 3 additional 4 U or 4 M courses.
Bachelor of Landscape Architecture

The Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (BLA) is a professional degree recognized by the Canadian and American Societies of Landscape Architects. The program is fully accredited by the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects (CSLA) and the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA).

Graduates can apply for registration as a Landscape Architect within the Province of Ontario after completing an accredited degree, two years of professional experience as a Landscape Architectural intern and successful completion of the Landscape Architecture Review Exam.

Admissions Requirements:
4 U English; 5 additional 4 U or 4 M credits. A breadth of courses in the social, physical and biological sciences, as well as the arts and languages, is encouraged for all applicants. Applicants are required to complete a Background Information Form.

Bachelor of Science

The Bachelor of Science (BSc) program provides a basic science curriculum in year one followed by the opportunity to select one of more than 30 specialized areas of study.

Courses in the BSc Program emphasize the scientific method to help develop analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Through formal course assignments, seminars and writing laboratory reports, students will also develop effective oral and written communication skills. Many courses provide practical hands-on training through laboratory exercises and field trips.

4 U English; Advanced Functions; 2 courses from 4 U Biology,Chemistry and Physics; 2 additional 4 U or 4 M courses.

Bachelor of Science (Agriculture)

The BSc (Agr) is a 4-year honours degree program designed to provide a fundamental education in the science of agriculture. The curriculum includes courses in the agricultural sciences, the physical, biological and social sciences, and in the arts.

Students can select courses that will help them prepare for professional careers as animal nutritionists, bioeconomy entrepreneurs, agricultural consultants, reserach scientists, marketing specialists, financial managers or technical advisors.

Bachelor of Science in Environmental Sciences

The BSC (Env) program is designed to provide a strong interdisciplinary grounding in specific environmental sciences including the socioeconomic context in which environmental issues are resolved.

Management and decision-making skills are emphasized for the application of scientific knowledge to environmental problems and the evaluation of appropriate environmental policies.

The program promotes practical problem-solving and communications skills, including the development of both good writing ability and oral communication skills.
