Rethinking the Future of Agriculture - Public Lecture, October 18

October 12, 2006

The Fall 2006 session of OAC’s public lecture series continues on Wednesday, October 18 with an examination of agriculture’s changing role and the need for a new approach to agricultural models and policies to meet the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century.

According to David Sparling, featured speaker for the evening and Executive Director of the Institute of Agri-Food Policy Innovation, changes in society are adding new dimensions to the business of farming and altering the relationships among agriculture, rural communities and urban consumers around the world.  Agriculture is poised to move far beyond food, assuming a key role in everything from human health to the energy and industrial products that we use every day. New approaches are essential for the industry to capitalize on the dramatically different needs and opportunities of the future.
