Veterinary Technology Graduates Excel in National Testing

August 25, 2006

All 2006 graduates from the Associate Diploma program in Veterinary Technology delivered at the University of Guelph - Ridgetown Campus successfully passed the June 2006 Veterinary Technology National Examinations (VTNE) written by technicians across North America in order to become registered or licensed.

In comparison to graduates from other Canadian colleges, American  colleges, other accredited colleges, and the total pool of candidates, the Ridgetown graduates performed exceedingly well, scoring between 9.78% and 37.02% above the average. The VTNE has an overall failure rate of 31.6%.

Examination results are broken down into seven domains, including Anesthesia, Surgical Preparation and Assistance, Laboratory Procedures, Radiography and Ultrasound, Pharmacy and Pharmacology, Animal Nursing and Office and Hospital Procedures.

According to Dr. Irene Moore, Coordinator of the Veterinary Technology Section, the consistent excellent performance on the VTNE is a tribute not only to the efforts and perseverance of the students but also to the hard work and dedication of the Veterinary Technology Staff.
